Prepare to Run » General Questions

This is relevant to you if you haven’t run before (or for a very long time) and / or have a very sedentary lifestyle, but want to change that.

If you haven’t run 21 km in last one year, or maybe never, I would suggest you start by taking part in Great Delhi Run (7 km). Train very well over next one – year and then do a good Half Marathon next year. Idea of doing these runs should be to enjoy and finish strong.

I don’t mean to discourage you from doing half – marathon, just that the chances of injuries will be very high.

If you have made up your mind anyways to do the half – marathon, I suggest you follow the walk – run program, which has popularized by world-renowned running coach Jeff Galloway. This is the best way to run injury free. Don’t worry about speed. What matters more is the time you spend on your feet.

For a running plan for the week, please check under Training Program for the week.

Roger Bannister, the first man to run a mile (1,600 metres) in under 4 minutes, and also a very renowned neurologist once commented “We run, not because we think it is doing us good, but because we enjoy it and cannot help ourselves. The more restricted our society and work become, the more necessary it will be to find some outlet for this craving for freedom. No one can say, ‘You must not run faster than this, or jump higher than that.’ The human spirit is indomitable.”

So, don’t let anyone stop you. Go, do it.
