Allan Robert Border is a former Australian cricket Captain and champion batsman. His playing nickname was "A.B." Allan’s debut for Australia was against England in 1978 and he retired from International cricket in April 1994.

Border was the first batsman to score 11,000 Test runs. He played 156 Tests in his career and still retains the World Record for the highest number of consecutive Test appearances and the highest number of Tests as Captain.

Border's legacy as a Captain is far reaching. AB took over the Captaincy from Kim Hughes in 1985 when the Australian team had lost experienced players and was performing poorly.  In partnership with innovative coach Bob Simpson, he rebuilt the Australian side.

Border and Simpson went on to mould a formidable team which included stars such as Steve Waugh and, towards the end of Border's career, Shane Warne. The team’s most notable successes was winning the 1987 World Cup, and in Test Cricket - the 1989 Ashes series.

At Border’s retirement, he had featured in more Tests, more consecutive Tests, more Tests as Captain and had taken more catches than any other player – with a batting average of 50.

In the year 2000, he was inducted into the prestigious Australian Cricket Hall of Fame. His importance to Australian Cricket is recognised ever year when the Australian Player of the Year receives the Allan Border Medal.
