Elle Purrier St. Pierre, 26, made it to her first Olympic Team by securing the first spot at the women’s 1500 meters at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials on Monday in Eugene, Oregon. She blazed the trail in 3:58.03 to win the national title, along with breaking the meet record and setting a new personal best for herself.
She was followed closely by Cory McGee, 29, who finished second in 4:00.67 and Heather MacLean, 25, who stood third in 4:02.09. They all qualified for Team USA heading to Tokyo this summer. It will be the first Olympics for all of them.
On winning the race, she expressed her immense happiness at the fact that her family was there to witness the moment and that she had a support team of people who believed in her. She also spoke about how crucial her own self-belief was in her achievement.
