A 68-year young teacher celebrates her love for running

Age is just a number! This statement is quite apt for Scottsbluff’s Kathy Rose, who will be turning 69 next month. With the Monument Marathon approaching on September 26, it will be her ninth turn in the half-marathon field.

Rose is working with the Gering schools and has been declared a winner 6 times in her age group. She said, “Jen Schwartz, one of my co-teachers at the time, was my mentor and coach when I decided to try my first Monument Marathon. It was the local marathon that later got me into running longer distances.”

Rose, as a child, loved running but the passion faded as the responsibilities increased with time. Nevermind, she picked up the sport again. In 2019, she completed her first full marathon in Colorado.
